How it works
The app checks for an installed pack first. A hit stays entirely on-device; a miss falls back to the cloud and needs a connection.
What is offline translation?
Offline translation runs the translation model directly on your phone. You download a language pack before you lose connectivity, and the app works without Wi-Fi or mobile data.
What can work offline
Text translation is the most common offline feature. Some apps also support offline camera translation, offline voice input, and offline text-to-speech. Each capability usually needs its own download.
Limitations
Offline models are smaller and usually less accurate than cloud models. Language coverage is also narrower. If you need the best quality, use cloud mode when you have a connection.
Frequently asked questions
How much storage do language packs use?
A typical text-only pack is 30–100 MB. Packs with voice, OCR, or TTS can be several hundred megabytes each.
Should I download packs before traveling?
Yes. Download packs over Wi-Fi before you leave. Hotel or airport Wi-Fi can be slow, and mobile data abroad can be expensive.
